Electric archtop guitar pickups come in various types and should be considered when you decide to purchase a new or used electric guitar. At ElectricArchtopGuitar.com we offer a wide range of styles and models, so you can find the guitar that fits your genre of music best.
Since changing the vibrations made by the strings into electronic signals that will be recorded and/or amplified is the goal, whatever system of amps being used affects your choice. Here are some of the main types:
>>> The most widely used are probably the magnetic guitar pickups, made from permanent magnets which are wrapped inside Copper wire and connected directly to the guitar’s neck or the body, sometimes directly over the sound hole on acoustic models. The vibrations of the strings are picked up and amplified.
>>> Designed to eliminate more of the feedback and wider output, the Piezoelectric pickup allows the sound to be amplified more fully. These pickups are used a lot in Jazz and Country electric guitars for their ability to produce a broader variety of special sounds.
>>> As the technology has progressed, LED light has found a place in guitar pickups. These optical pickups use light sources that emit beams that are interrupted by playing the strings. One big selling point is since they use photodiode or phototransistor detectors, these guitar pickups are completely unaffected by the magnetic and electric interference seen with older style pickups.
