About CSI on DVD

I see no harm in unwinding in front of the TV after a long day of work. I especially love the police procedural genre and watch just about every show that falls into this category. And if I can’t find anything good on a particular night, then I settle for an episode or two of CSI on DVD.

Crime Scene Investigation — the original version based in Las Vegas — has been one of the top-rated prime time programs ever since it premiered way back in 2000. The show was an immediate hit mostly because it afforded viewers an inside look at how forensic science is used to capture criminals.

Download Free Music Legally

Now that practically everyone has a portable MP3 player of some sort, the market for audio CDs has shrunk considerably while the market for individual song downloads has vastly expanded. It’s just so much more convenient to be able to get online, find the song you want, and grab it for $.99. But even this model, which was made popular by the Apple iTunes store, can get expensive after a while — especially when you consider how some folks have literally thousands of songs on their iPods. That’s why it’s nice to be able to download free music when you’re fresh out of cash.

Of course there are some people out there who think those of us who download free music must be doing so illegally. After all, there’s seemingly always a story in the news about the RIAA going after an individual in the courts for copyright infringement. Yes, this kind of piracy is a real concern for the industry, but there are actually several ways to download free music legally.

For example, one way to download free music is to keep an eye out for special promotions from your favorite bands. Quite often well-known artists such as U2, Coldplay, Eminem, Kings of Leon, and others offer complimentary downloads of a single from an upcoming album release. These promotions are usually for a limited time only, but can be a great way to get some tunes from major acts without having to pay a dime. Visiting your favorite artist’s website or signing up for a fan newsletter will keep you updated about future giveaways.

Another great way to download free music is by checking out some lesser-known bands that are trying to catch their first big break. Most of these smaller acts use MySpace or similar social networking websites to promote their songs and get their name out there in an effort to attract the attention of a major label. You can often find some amazing new tunes this way, and might even “discover” that next hot band before they enter the mainstream. It does take some time to sift through all the stuff on MySpace, but there are other sites that offer specific recommendations to guide you.

And finally, you can always go for public domain pieces that are no longer copyrighted. This usually means classical works from composers like Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Mendelssohn, and Vivaldi. Though these minuets and concertos might not be your usual taste, it’s nice to add some variety to your MP3 play list!

As you can see, just because you download free music that doesn’t mean you’ll set off alarm bells, receive threatening letters from your ISP, or face lawsuits from the RIAA. There are a number of ways to do this legally, so go get some new songs right now!

There aren’t many cultural touchstones that can transcend generations. A good cigarette is one, as is a good steak. Good television programs not so much – there’s a concrete and easily measurable generation gap when it comes to what different generations of folks like watching on the tube. Good music is even more stratified. You’re not going to find too many baby boomers who’d list the Arctic Monkeys among their favorite bands, just like you won’t find too many Generation Y’ers who’ll profess their love of James Taylor or Smokey Robinson and the Miracles.

Yet whatever the race, color, creed or generation, it seems unanimous that everyone loves beatles music. From the very first strains of “Love Me, Do” to the last refrain of “Hey, Jude,” beatles music crosses generations and bridges cultures in a way the music of no other artist.

My family is a good example. I’m thirty three years old, a bit of a musician, a liberal, and I live in New York City. Some would call me a hipster (a label I’d reject, but that would just make me more hipsterish, so whatever). My brother is a year and a half older than me, is an engineer living in the suburbs with a wife, a kid and a sit-down lawnmower. And a pick-up truck.

Then take my mom. At age sixty five she’s still teaching troubled kids from the inner city, as well as mentally handicapped kids from both the city and more well to do suburbs.

What’s the common thread? We all love beatles music. The themes that John Lennon and Paul McCartney dealt with lyrically are universal, of course – whether it comes to a love song like “Yesterday” or a call for social responsibility like “Across the Universe”, almost all beatles music rings true and distinct. There’s something for everyone to latch onto in almost any given bit of beatles music, and as a result it’s not dated at all.

On top of that you can add that, musically, the beatles blended ear-candy style bubblegum pop with complex basslines, creative lead guitar and ground-breaking sound mixing. What they did in the studio from, say, Rubber Soul through Sgt. Pepper’s Loney Hearts Club Band simply hasn’t been replicated. Even the most snobbish classical music or jazz buffs recognize the virtuosity in beatles music. And that’s what sets the beatles apart.

Many of your favorite prime time television shows are available to watch online on demand or as podcasts to your blackberry or iphone. In today’s hectic world it is sometimes next to impossible to set aside specific times to watch scheduled shows. There are other ways of watching these shows besides on your television and seeing TV shows online is one option that is becoming more and more popular.

As computers get faster and bandwidth increases more and more information can travel over cable or DSL lines or by satellite much faster. You can watch streaming movies on demand on sites like www.netflix.com or www.blockbuster.com. For smaller movies and tv shows online you can just go to www.youtube.com and do a search. Even Amazon has pay per view now with streaming video. Not all of your favorite television shows will be available there however. Sometimes you need to set up a log in account with the network that produces the show in order to watch it. You can also get pirated shows using an outlaw service such as torrent or limewire, but it is not recommended and you can get some seriously damaging viruses on your computer. It is not worth the risk and you should avoid these open file sharing sites.

On Demand services are routinely offered free by most cable providers and satellite television companies including Comcast and Astound. Not all programs are available however and even free television networks like NBC charge a small fee to watch your favorite shows. In comparison you will not get as good an image watching tv shows online but you will save money. Again, not all shows are available online.

If you are traveling to a foreign country you may not be able to download or watch your favorite tv shows online by going to the network sites. Pirating is so prevalent in many countries that networks and studios do not allow streaming video to go out on their broadband.

TV shows online can also mean sports programming and there are several sites where you have to pay a fee like a season pass in order to watch your favorite sports teams. This can be great if you are Los Angeles Lakers fan, for example, and you are travelling all the time but still want to see their games every day. Special NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB packages are available for those specific sports tv shows online. They are not cheap however so be prepared to pay up or else miss a lot of games. This is just not acceptable to truly devoted fans and most will pay whatever it takes to watch their games on a consistent basis.

If you don’t want to miss your favorite programs you don’t have to anymore, not with tv shows online and other on demand packages available. You can also just record the shows and watch them later on our TIVO. Whichever method that you choose everyone agrees that it is always good to have options.

This 2010 self-titled debut from PA-based Chuck Gibson blends guitar-driven rock and atmospheric hooks with salient results: a hope-filled album that’s as well-produced as it is worshipful. From the high-energy opener “Live For You,” to the ethereal powerhouse “Hello,” Gibson’s vocals soar against a dynamic backdrop of half-time rock, piano licks and drum work that’s reminiscent of Switchfoot and The Fray while remaining all its own. Themes of redemption and expressions of praise color the lyrics, nowhere more powerfully than in the anthemic centerpiece “I Will Worship.” To that end, Gibson has established himself not only as a creative artist, but a messenger of hope.

One of the best ways to watch streaming movies is by using a service called Netflix. For those of you not familiar with Netflix.com, it is a website where you can sign up and for a monthly fee you are able to rent DVDs that they mail to you. You can also watch thousands of streaming movies that they have in their extensive library. You can watch these streaming movies on your computer or through your television set using an external device such as Xbox or Playstation 3. You can choose a movie from the Netflix.com website and instantly watch it right on your High-Def plasma or LCD big screen.

Netflix was started as an alternative to having to go the video store. Video rental stores like Blockbuster had the entire market cornered for many years and they knew it. If you wanted to rent some movies you had to get dressed (at least pajamas), leave the comfort of your home and drive your car to the nearest store.

Once there you would wander around for a while, pick a few movies and pay at least $2 each or more. New releases generally cost more and you could only keep them for three days, at which time you had to return them or else face a hefty fine. If you have a normal busy lifestyle then you were probably late a few time each month and sometimes for long periods. Many times people would lend the movie out to a friend or family member who inevitably promised to return if for you, a most attractive offer on the face of it. But when that person disappeared and never returned the movie for several months, the late fees would accumulate until your bill resembled the GDP of a small foreign island nation.

Along came Netflix and their innovative business model. You go to their website at www.netflix.com and you sign up for a monthly plan. You pay $20 per month and you get to have 3 movies at any one time. You go on their website and you choose movies from their extensive library which includes different genres of movies, documentaries and special interest films. You place these films into your own personal “queue” and they then mail you the first three available films from the top of your queue. You receive the DVDs in the mail in a special red envelope, which is also a prepaid return envelope which you just drop in any mailbox. You watch the movies at your leisure. There are no late fees. When Netflix receives the returned movies at one of their numerous distribution centers around the country, they will send you the next movie or movies from the top of your queue. It is that easy. If a movie happens to be lost in the mail when you return it, or you never receive it (these things happen) you will not be charged for it and a new movie will be sent out to you.

Streaming movies were added to the site a few years after the service started. It works the same as your rentals. You choose from a giant inventory of movies and you can watch them instantly on your computer or television as streaming movies. This is just about the most convenient way you can watch movies in my opinion.

AC DC is the last dinosaur of rock music. Not a single rock band was capable of stand out in celebrity and excellency compare to a band like AC DC. They have the songs, the riffs, the energy, and the lead guitar player….

We all remember that gigantic live show in Germany untitled Stif Upper Lip, it is to me probably one of the best filmed rock concerts ever in music history. The energy those guys have is just amazing.

Angus Young is by far the greatest rock ‘n’ roll guitar player of all time. Right he’s not a virtuosos type of player like Malmsteen or Vai but who worry? Rock-and-roll is not about skills but riff, feeling and guts.

Check out AC DC live performance and interviews.
