At times, your trip to a music recording studio is going to be pretty straight forward. You are offered a price for a certain amount of work (or a by the hour rate), and you go in, record, and take home your product. For many people going in for the first time, this is what they do. As a part of your price you may be offered pressing for your CD (if you choose to use that format) and other duplication fees. Again, all of these things are for a package price you have agreed to before you began, and probably need to pay before you start.

In some other cases, you may come upon someone who claims to be a producer as well as a sound recording engineer. This can be a problem for some people and a great break for other people. They may offer recording and packaging, but you may see the price is much higher. Included in what they offer you they may say they are going to shop you around to try to get you signed. They may offer some other things too. For the most part, this is not typical of a music recording studio that most unknown performers can afford. When this comes your way, it may seem very exciting, but you have to settle down and use your head.

Paula, that is Paula Abdul has been one of the four judges of the American Idol singing talent search reality show since its inception. In other words, Paula has been judging competitors for the past eight years. But for one reason or another she has decided that enough is enough and that it is time to more on to other project and so, step off her bench.

And who will be replacing her? Ellen DeGeneres, no less. Will this change the dynamics and the character of the AI competition? I have no doubt that it will and the change will be positive, at least for the viewers who will get to enjoy Ellen amazing sense of humor and love for comedy.

You should also have an official band website. My space pages are alright, but having your own well-made website can take your band promotion to the next level.

Another important band promotion step you can take is to get some good merchandise.

Many bands have made it to the top through networking. You need to meet a lot of local bands, music organizers, and other people in your scene, and find ways to work with them.

If you’ve been buying tickets online for any time you may have noticed that some of the dates sell out VERY quickly. It’s almost like you need 3 people on 3 different computers to even get a chance at a ticket.

I have heard of paying people to stand in line for you if they have advance ticket sales and I might even try that pretty soon.

I have seen good deals every once in awhile with eBay. And so far it’s worked out. I think the main reason is I’ve used eBay a lot for other purchases and I know what to look for.

Since I’m near Atlanta, I just search for Atlanta Concert Tickets in the search box and every once in awhile some really good deals show up. Usually it’s someone who can’t go to the show but there are ticket brokers on there also.

Here’s the deal. Look at their feedback, it’s the number next to their user name. And then look at the percentage points that’s next to their user name. Anything less than 98% I would proceed with caution.

Click on the number of feedback’s and it will take you to a page where people talk about their purchases with this eBay seller. That’s where the real clue is. And for an even closer look, check out the feedback where something went wrong. Does the seller act like a complete jerk or does he/she try to remedy the situation with money back or whatever.

Also the tone of the exchange between the two. Does the seller keep cool and try to remedy the situation?

Also a good thing about eBay is sometimes the seller will have local pickup so you can go and meet them and have the tickets handed to you. So next time you’re looking at ticket prices online and it’s just too much or sold out, run over to eBay and have a look around.

In today’s world of music gear sometimes when your favorite ipod or speaker cabinet quits working it’s not convenient to run to the mall or wait around for a UPS shipment. Learning how to use a ohm meter
or multimeter can save time and money.

It’s really not that hard to learn and there is plenty of information online to help you get started. Here’s a good example. How many batteries do you go through and do you ever wonder if it’s the battery that’s going dead or something else?

If you know how to use a multimeter or ohm meter, (they are both the same thing) just put it on voltage reading and touch the probes to both poles of the battery. One meter probe for one battery pole. What does the reading say? If it’s a 9 volt battery it should be close to 9, sometimes as low as the 7’s and some things still work well.

What happens if it says 9 volts and your device still doesn’t work. Well now you know it’s not the battery, check something else. Is there a good connection to where ever the battery plugs in? Yes?

Then switch out something else, like the head phones. Suddenly it starts working. Maybe it’s the head phones are blown or it wasn’t plugged in all the way.

The point is, instead of spending time looking for batteries, you figured out real quick it was something else and saved time and money!

Theatre shows have been the main source of entertainment in the globes greatest cities for a long time.
